Transcript

All others: please include a grading scheme if your university does not use a letter-based (e.g. A, A-, B) grading scheme. The minimum GPA to be considered: 3 (for regular admission). Students who do not meet these requirements, but who excel in other areas, may be considered for Admission with Permission to Continue. |

English Proficiency Test
| NOTE: During the COVID-19 crisis, in addition to the language tests listed in this section, we are accepting Duolingo scores (minimum of 105 for regular admission). Non-native speakers are required to submit unofficial TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores (official scores are submitted on admission) unless they meet at least one of the following criteria: 1) at the time of initial enrollment, they will hold a degree from a U.S. institution or an institution in one of the English speaking countries or regions in the link below; 2) at the time of initial enrollment, they will have been enrolled in coursework for at least two years at a U.S. institution or an institution in one of the English speaking countries or regions in the link below; 3) they are a citizen or legal resident of one of the English speaking countries or regions in the link below. https://graduate.ua.edu/prospective-students/international-admissions/ The minimum score(s) to be considered for regular admission: TOEFL: 79, IELTS: 6.5, PTE: 59. |
Portfolio | Portfolio is necessary in musicology, theory, composition, and arranging. |
Interview | An on-campus interview is encouraged by not required. |
Audition | Audition is required for performance and conducting majors (sometimes replaced by an audition tape). |
Departmental Exam | An examination in musicianship and music theory is needed at the time of audition. A Diagnostic exam is required for those who apply for assistantships in theory. Also, diagnostic examinations in music theory and music history are required at the beginning of the first semester of study. |
